Job summary

UCS Healthcare in Ottumwa, Iowa, is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) to support our MAT program. The RN will provide comprehensive medical care, collaborate with a clinical team, and maintain professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications to patients in MAT program.
  • Perform nursing assessments and H&Ps on admissions/readmissions.
  • Review prescriptions and OTC meds for safety and awareness of adverse effects.
  • Perform TB tests and other ordered tests; record results.
  • Carry out venipuncture and injections as directed.
  • Execute physician orders including telephone orders accurately.
  • Assist physician with patient rooming and ensure compliance.
  • Document patient status clearly for team and medical director.
  • Make appropriate health referrals when needed.
  • Count medications and monitor for diversion or misuse; initiate callbacks.
  • Answer nursing/medical questions and refer as appropriate.
  • Request dosage changes and implement orders promptly.
  • Obtain urine samples per policy; report results.
  • Review take-home medication criteria.
  • Conduct daily nursing assessments for detox patients.
  • Assist in guest dosing and first aid when required.
  • Provide medical problem insight to staff and support patient monitoring.
  • Maintain licensure and inform Medical Director of changes.

About this position

We have a part‑time position for an RN at our Ottumwa location supporting our medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) program.

Job Summary

Provide comprehensive medical care within scope of practice to clinic patients, collaborating with a team of medical professionals and maintaining professional standards. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence. Responsibilities can include any of our practice areas.

Essential Functions
  • Administer medications to patients in treatment.
  • Perform nursing assessments and H&P’s on all new admissions or readmissions when necessary.
  • Review patient’s prescriptions and OTC medications to ensure they are properly prescribed and assess client awareness of adverse reactions.
  • Perform, interpret, record, and report on‑site TB tests and other testing as ordered by physician.
  • Perform venipuncture and injections as ordered by physician.
  • Carry out all physician orders including telephone orders.
  • Assist the physician with clinic rooming patients and ensuring compliance.
  • Record and report all observed symptoms and changes in the patient’s condition to the interdisciplinary team members and medical director if necessary.
  • Communicate patient status through legible and precise documentation.
  • Make appropriate health referrals whenever necessary.
  • Count client medications and initiate callbacks to monitor for diversion or abuse/misuse.
  • Answer all phone calls relating to nursing/medical questions and make appropriate referrals.
  • Make appropriate request to provider when medication dosage change is indicated and carry out those orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Obtain urine specimens according to agency policy and federal regulation and make appropriate report of results.
  • Review eight‑point criteria for take‑home medications.
  • Perform daily nursing assessments on patients involved in the detoxification program.
  • Assist clients with guest dosing.
  • Provide first aid to patients and staff as needed and make appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to the staff in understanding a patient’s medical problems.
  • Assist in monitoring patient activities while on center property.
  • Maintain licensure as required.
  • Keep the Medical Director informed of changes that occur in clinical and medical matters.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
  • Unrestricted license in the state of Iowa as a RN.
  • CPR certificate.
  • Venipuncture skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise discretion and own judgment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive information confidentially.
Preferred Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Previous experience in treating substance use disorders.
Supervisory Responsibility

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and liability insurance or an equivalent means of reliable personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.

Part‑time; 24 hours a week; 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; 3 days a week, Tuesdays are required.
