Overview

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education, and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Parent institutions Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report ranking the hospital and medical school among the nation's elite.

Division 7800 ICU is an Oncology designated 25-bed Intensive Care Unit. 10 beds are designated for oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. We provide care to critically ill patients with oncology, bone marrow transplant diagnoses, and patients who have had surgical interventions requiring ICU care. Care involves high acuity, complex interventions serving patients of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Oncology, and Surgical services. The care team includes oncology nurses, attending physicians, fellows, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, case managers, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy, and psycho-social support.

Professional growth is encouraged through programs like the Nursing Resident Program (NRP), Career Ladder Program, Mock Codes, and educational opportunities with attending physicians. Preparation for certifications such as CCRN, OCN, and BMTNC is supported.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Responsible for operational and clinical management of a patient care unit 24/7. Oversees a span of control and financial responsibility of over 72 FTEs and $2.5 million in expenses or over 40 FTEs and $5 million in expenses.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff including hiring, training, assigning work, performance evaluation, and professional development. Ensure team actions support operational goals.
  • Develop and adhere to staffing, revenue, and expense budgets. Respond to business changes affecting goals.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, evidence-based patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with policies, regulations, and standards; update policies as needed.
  • Promote customer satisfaction, quality outcomes, and process improvements.
  • Implement systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support and grow new or existing programs and business opportunities.

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
