Job Summary

Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate the clinical and operational functions of a nursing unit to ensure quality, cost-effective healthcare provided by an educated and competent team. Promote a safe environment and maintain clinical and professional competency appropriate to patients' age, developmental stages, and needs.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate and support a Professional Practice model fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Ensure unit operations and staff compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory standards, and policies.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet unit and organizational goals, uphold quality management, and patient care standards.
  • Recruit, retain, and ensure proper orientation, education, credentialing, and ongoing professional development of staff.
  • Promote shared governance, develop research initiatives to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Perform nursing care, assist with treatments, therapies, procedures, and medication administration.
  • Assess and provide patient and family education effectiveness.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance nursing quality and patient outcomes.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and standards based on evidence-based practices.
  • Encourage shared accountability for professional practice.
  • Allocate resources to meet unit needs, oversee budget, and maintain cost efficiency with staff involvement.

Physical Requirements

Walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling; ability to lift 35 pounds; fluent in English; good sight, hearing, smell, touch; finger dexterity; critical thinking; quick response to patient and unit changes.

Education, Experience, Certifications

Graduate from an accredited Nursing School; current RN licensure; MSN preferred; enrollment in MSN within 1 year, graduation within 5 years; management experience preferred; BLS required; professional certification within 1 year of eligibility; additional qualifications may be specified.
