Primary Purpose

The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery, focusing on a particular patient population(s)/specific health condition, by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN assists patients in transitioning through healthcare encounters without preventable complications or delays and delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.

Job Summary
  • Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences. Maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers, serving as a resource for patients and healthcare team members. Uses effective communication to develop therapeutic relationships and promotes wellness. Provides patient care education and may participate in community outreach activities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines impacting nursing practice. Develops controls to adhere to legal and accreditation standards. Maintains knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies, and procedures for patients requiring induction of pregnancy.
  • Performs patient assessments, recognizes condition changes, and provides interventions. Consults with team members, reports changes, and implements orders timely. Provides safe nursing care to laboring patients, neonates, and postpartum patients.
  • Performs duties during labor, delivery, postpartum, supports breastfeeding, administers medications safely, manages IV access, and provides emergency care.
  • Completes documentation accurately, ensuring standards are met. Works with staff to provide direction, participates in information exchange, and serves as Charge Nurse as needed.
  • Serves as a preceptor or trainer for new staff. Conducts educational programs annually. Seeks process improvements and may serve on interdisciplinary committees.
  • Stays updated on nursing trends through seminars, journals, and professional organizations. Maintains required licensure and certifications, integrating new knowledge into practice.
  • Performs any additional duties deemed competent.
Minimum Specifications
  • ASN or BSN from an accredited nursing school.
  • Current/Valid RN license or temporary permit from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license.
  • At least two years of RN experience in Labor and Delivery within the last three years.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network.
  • Current ALS or ACLS certification from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network (with a 90-day attainment window for new hires between Feb 1-29, 2024).
  • Current NRP certification from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network (with a 90-day window for new hires between Feb 1-29, 2024).
  • One of the following certifications upon hire: AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, or NCC EFM Certification, with renewal requirements as specified.
  • For Sr. RN Fellow role, AWHONN Intermediate EFM Certificate must be obtained within one year of hire or reclassification.
  • Additional specialty certifications may be required.
