Job summary

Island Health in Anacortes, WA seeks an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for per diem, variable shifts. You will provide direct patient care to mothers, newborns, and families, administering medications and supporting safe, family-centered maternity care.

You will join a compassionate team, utilize the five-step nursing process, and contribute to evidence-based practices while maintaining high standards of patient education and safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Washington State RN license.
• BLS and NRP certifications required.
• Minimum one year of labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery experience.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Assumes all responsibilities of a labor, delivery, postpartum, nursery nurse by providing direct patient care to patients from infancy through adults.
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing standards.
• Utilizes nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to provide care.
• Participates in communication and problem solving with patient/significant other, health team members and departments.
• Assesses knowledge level of patient/significant other; develops teaching plan and evaluates outcome.
• Documents nursing process components according to standards.
• Assesses own learning needs and prioritizes actions.
• Enters patient data into computer.

• Schedule: Per Diem / Variable Shift
• Salary Range: $37.64 – $71.35 per hour
• Differentials:
  • Night: +$4.75/hr
  • Weekend: +$4.00/hr
  • BSN Premium: +$1.00/hr
  • Certification Premium: +$1.00/hr

• Documents appropriate components of the nursing process according to established standards.
• Assesses own learning needs and establishes priorities and develops action plan.
• Enters patient data into computer.

What You Will Bring To The Role

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Current Washington State RN license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Minimum one (1) year of recent experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery care
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs.
• Understands and supports principles of case management.
