Job summary

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU/SDU). The role requires care for patients with complex medical needs, close monitoring, and fast-paced teamwork.

Night shift, 36 hours per week, with a 1:4-5 nurse-to-patient ratio. New graduates are welcome to apply through the Transition to Practice program; BSN preferred and active RN license required.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
• RN license required and BLS within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients with complex medical needs in IMCU/SDU
• Monitor patient status and administer medications and IV drips as per protocol
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team for patient-centered care
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure patient safety

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Intermediate Care/Step Down Unit.

Up to $20,000 sign-on bonus available to qualifying candidates!

Hours/Shift:

36-hours per week, night shift

Our 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit provides a dynamic and supportive environment for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced setting that bridges critical and acute care. We care for patients with complex medical needs requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions, while fostering strong interdisciplinary collaboration and professional growth. Join a team where clinical excellence, compassion, and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do.

Primary diagnosis includes CHF, COPD, MI, CKD, AKD, and Sepsis. We do several drips on our unit which include dobutamine, milrinone, dopamine, Lasix, heparin and nitroglycerin. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5.

This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates , this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Education

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)

• Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

• Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Certification/Licensure
