Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center - Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Summary of Primary Functions
The Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team within the nursing process framework. Responsibilities include data collection, assessment, prioritization of patient needs, and evaluation of care outcomes. The RN also coordinates patient teaching and care delivery by team members.
Essential Job Functions
- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessments, develops care plans, implements treatments, and evaluates their effectiveness.
- Administers medications safely in accordance with policies and state regulations.
- Acts as a liaison for care coordination across hospital departments.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and collaborates with spiritual care, palliative, and ethics teams as needed.
- Coordinates care with family members or caregivers.
- Performs nursing care involving life-support technologies such as ventilators, CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO.
- Performs hemodynamic monitoring.
- Manages critically ill patients with multi-system organ failure or trauma.
- Uses the AACN Synergy Model to support patient stability and recovery.
- Prioritizes information and takes evidence-based, patient-focused actions.
- Adapts to rapidly changing patient conditions with confidence.
- Addresses the unique needs of patients and families coping with illness or injury, advocating for their quality of life.

Licensing/Certification
- Current RN license in the state of practice or covered by a compact license.
- BLS certification (preferred upon hire, must be obtained prior to patient care).
- ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
- Additional certifications such as TNCC, CCRN, PCCN, RN-BC, TCRN, NIH Stroke Certification are preferred.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
- 6 months RN experience in critical care or emergency settings preferred.
Training
- EPIC EHR training and Critical Care courses are preferred.
