Position Summary

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient care through the nursing process, including data collection, assessment, prioritization, and evaluation, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN manages patient education and coordinates care among healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop care plans, implement treatments, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Administer medications safely according to policies and practice standards.
  • Coordinate patient care across hospital departments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as a patient safety advocate.
  • Collaborate with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams.
  • Manage care for patients with multi-system organ failure or trauma.
  • Utilize the AACN Synergy Model to support patient stability and recovery.
  • Prioritize and respond to changing patient conditions with clinical judgment.
  • Address the unique needs of patients and families coping with illness or injury.
Licensing and Certification
  • Current RN license in the state of practice or covered by a compact.
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred at hire and required within 6 months.
  • CCR, PCCN, NIH Stroke Certification preferred.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; 6 months in acute care preferred.

Work Environment
