Position Overview

This position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at the novice level necessary to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under their care, and apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan. The role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and Licensure
  • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 60 days of hire; licenses must be obtained before expiration of the temporary permit unless prevented by circumstances such as pandemic-related NCLEX testing center closures.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Experience
  • Less than 12 months of nursing experience.

  2. Create care plans using the nursing process: assessment, diagnoses, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes.

  5. Incorporate patient individuality and mutuality data in care delivery.
  6. Perform thorough patient assessments and documentation.
  7. Use teach-back methods to evaluate the effectiveness of education.
  8. Utilize Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in nursing care.
  9. Participate in organizational patient-centered care models.
  10. Document problems and issues in the care plan.
  11. Grow in ability to care for more complex patients through consultation with experienced colleagues.
  12. Commit to lifelong learning through self-reflection and inquiry.
  13. Retain accountability for delegated nursing care.
  14. Recognize scope of practice for all interprofessional team members.
  15. Participate in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection.
  16. Assess the impact of family dynamics on health and wellness.
  17. Apply the ANA code of ethics to nursing practice.
  18. Identify discriminatory healthcare practices in diverse populations.
  19. Individualize care based on patient beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
Physical Requirements

Meet physical demands such as lifting and moving patients, with accommodations as needed. Work involves stamina and strength, visual and auditory acuity, and working around biohazards and infectious diseases.

Work Environment

Expect working hours that may be irregular, and environments involving biohazards, infectious diseases, working with or near the deceased, water, and electrical hazards.

Nurses can progress through levels based on experience, education, certification, and competencies, including roles such as charge nurse, preceptor, and participation in quality improvement and governance.

Position Details

Exciting opportunity to join the new WVU Ruby Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit as a full-time RN. The unit offers a patient ratio of 1:5, with all shifts available. Preferred candidates will have experience or interest in neurological rehabilitation, and a desire to complete CRRN certification. The position involves working as part of an interdisciplinary team, applying evidence-based practices, and providing outstanding patient care.

Scheduled weekly hours: 36
