Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient Acute Care 12WT

We are searching for a Registered Nurse for our General Med/Surg unit (12WT)– someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. 12WT is a 22 bed med/surg unit that sees kidney, liver transplant, renal and GI patients.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or an associate’s degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required.
  2. Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification with American Heart Association are required.
  3. One (1) year of professional nursing experience.
  4. The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrate good time and resource management skills.
  6. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
  2. Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient status.
  3. Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.
  4. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record.
  5. Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate.
  6. Assesses patient family learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.
  7. Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.
  8. Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.
  9. Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
  10. Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives.
