Job summary

UP Health System - Marquette is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for ICU/Medical-Surgical duties in a PRN role. The position features 12-hour varied shifts and requires Michigan RN licensure and a nursing degree with unit-specific experience.

As part of our Med-Surg/ICU team, you’ll develop care plans, monitor patient conditions, document thoroughly, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure safe transitions and exceptional patient care.

Qualifications

• Current Michigan RN license (or within 90 days of hire).
• Associate degree from an accredited nursing program (bachelor's preferred).
• Basic Life Support certification is required (available upon hire).
• 1 year Medical-Surgical experience preferred.
• 1 year Critical Care experience preferred (for ICU).
• ICU RN Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC (within 6 months).
• Annual influenza vaccination or declination required.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements a patient-focused nursing plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family.
• Cares for patients in accordance with established best practices.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (Hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referrals, and psychosocial support.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient/family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
• Maintains privacy and security of confidential health information.
• Maintains a pleasant patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Our Medical‑Surgical (Med‑Surg)/ICU unit is an acute care hospital department where nurses provide care to patients of all ages with a wide range of medical conditions, including those recovering from surgery. This fast‑paced environment emphasizes comprehensive, patient‑centered care, ongoing patient and family education, and efficient discharge planning to support safe transitions of care.

How You’ll Contribute

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license (or attain within 90 days of hire) and possess an associate degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's degree preferred). Additional requirements include:
