Job summary

Duke Raleigh Campus ICU seeks an RN for our 28‑bed unit in Raleigh, NC, offering 2:1 patient care and a collaborative, magnet‑recognized environment. The role requires BSN (or start within two years) and NC RN licensure with BLS, plus strong ability to lead and educate staff and families.

You will participate in multidisciplinary rounds, quality improvement, and patient-centered care in a dynamic setting. Relocation assistance and student loan forgiveness are available for eligible candidates,

Qualifications

• Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.
• BSN with NC RN licensure; must obtain/maintain BLS certification.
• Twelve months of appropriate clinical nursing experience required for Level II.

Department Summary

The Intensive Care Unit at Duke Raleigh Campus is a 28-bed multidisciplinary ICU. 2-1 staff to patient ratio. Our patient population varies from neuro, neurovascular, cardiac conditions, neurosurgery, liver & renal, sepsis and more. Our team's main goal is to deliver exemplary care for our patients to ensure optimal outcomes. Teamwork, open communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration is valued with our team.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

• Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
• Collaborate and provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide leadership within the delivery of patient care.
• Provide leadership in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects.
• Provide evaluation, direction and guidance in the proper selection, use, care and control of material resources.
• Appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and collaborate with appropriate departments to assist with vendor selection and feedback on performance.
• Guide the professional growth of others across the continuum of care through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring. This may include designing orientation modules, primary precepting of senior nursing students.
• Provide leadership at a departmental, entity, community or regional/national level for initiatives focused on improving the quality of care for populations of patients and growth of others.
• Conduct performance reviews.
• Effectively recommend personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications At This Level

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.

Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

Experience

• Twelve months of appropriate clinical nursing experience is required for Level II

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

• Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
• BLS required.

• Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and Unlicensed staff.
