Job description

PRN Commitment: Required to sign up for a minimum of 144 hours in a scheduling period (about 18 hours/week). Day shift with variable shifts between 6:30am and 6:00PM.

General Summary

Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for assessing patients, developing, evaluating, and modifying the plan of care. Provides care through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, environment/technology, and collaboration with the healthcare team, following established standards. Performs complex patient-care procedures specific to their expertise. Functions as part of the Care Team and Support Team to achieve patient outcomes as outlined in the pathway and plan of care. Patients include all age groups (Infant through Older Adult).

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following describes the general nature and level of work. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties.

  1. Provides care to unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient populations; practices independently with solid knowledge and skills; advances own practice; integrates evidence into practice.
  2. Accountable for care processes and outcomes during an episode for patients and families; accountable to peers for practice advancement; accountable to nurse manager for overall performance.
  3. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs; serves as a clinical resource as needed.
  4. Participates in initiatives addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  5. Ensures compliance with standards and supports regulatory activities.
  6. Supports leadership and charge nurse decisions; may serve as primary coordinating nurse.
  7. Models safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care aligned with unit operations.
  8. Supports AACN guidelines for a Healthy Work Environment, focusing on communication, collaboration, decision-making, recognition, leadership, staffing.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Safety

Ensures patient safety through job performance and participation in safety initiatives.

  1. Acts to correct observed risks.
  2. Reports adverse events and near misses.
  3. Identifies potential risks and communicates them to management.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
  • Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year RN experience.
  • AHA BLS certification upon hire.
  • Unit-specific certifications (PALS, ACLS, NRP); ACLS required.
