Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse Critical Care is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment managed by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based research. RN competencies are based on these models and aligned with the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses Critical Care are required to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold nursing practices as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, including the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards from the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, individuals are expected to advocate for the patient, follow system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating through effective partnerships.
  • Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics, including cultural diversity.
  • Partner with patients and significant others via methods like bedside reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient education, making patient goals central to the care plan.
  • Practice according to current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality care through inclusive communication, timely documentation, and fostering a respectful clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, quality patient care.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Complete all competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serve as preceptor or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Promote evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in activities like value analysis.
  • Adhere to healthcare policies, standards, and legal requirements, including safety goals and organizational policies.
  • Engage in data collection, formulate clinical questions, consult experts, and utilize evidence to improve practice.

Resources and Support

  • Proactively plan patient care across the continuum during direct care.
  • Develop protocols and procedures collaboratively to improve outcomes such as reducing re-admissions and adverse events.
  • Support efficient use of resources.

Other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards.

Minimum Education

  • Diploma from an accredited nursing program OR
  • Bachelor's Degree (BSN) preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN license (single state or multi-state compact)
  • BLS certification (Instructor preferred)
  • ACLS certification (Instructor or Provisional)

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of direct patient care experience.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, time management, and technological skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies professionally.
