Job summary

TCH Medical Center in Austin, TX is seeking an Inpatient Staff Nurse to join a fast-paced, patient‑centered team. You will assess, plan, educate, implement and evaluate age‑appropriate care that includes families and cost‑effective practices while maintaining high standards of safety.

The ideal candidate holds a Texas RN license, BLS certification and has 9 months of inpatient nursing experience; BSN program enrollment or BSN equivalency is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent per Texas Board of Nursing requirements.
• Current RN license in Texas or compact license.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association.
• Minimum 9 months of professional nursing experience in an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists in collecting patient/family data per site protocol.
• Collects and documents vital signs and visit reason.
• Prepares patient for examination per site protocol.
• Assists provider during treatments and testing within scope of site.
• Administers medications and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol.
• Documents medication administration and immunizations in medical record.
• Provides patient/family education as instructed and documents in medical record.
• Coordinates referrals and triages patient complaints per site protocol.
• Verifies provider orders and patient status per site protocol.
• Collects and processes specimens per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families.
• Undergoes respiratory fit testing as required by safety standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol
• Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight and reason for visit
• Prepares patient for examination per site protocol
• Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of site
• Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol
• Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per site protocol
• Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol
• Documents such education in the medical record
• Coordinates referrals
• Triages presenting patient complaint per site protocol
• Verifies provider order and patient per site protocol
• Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique
• Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or one of the following:
• Associate degree in nursing/related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement
• Technical Diploma in Nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
• Must be currently enrolled in A Nursing Bridge Program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
• RN License – Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association required
• 9 Months Professional Nursing Experience Required
