Job summary

Tenet Healthcare's San Ramon Regional Medical Center is seeking a Part-Time Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department to plan, direct, and provide high-quality patient care using the nursing process.

Reporting to the Nursing Director, you will maintain current licenses, participate in multidisciplinary care plans, ensure patient safety, and document care accurately. CA RN license and BLS are required; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred; active in-service education encouraged.
• Minimum ER experience within the last three years.

Reporting to the Nursing Director, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

Responsibilities

• Maintains current professional licenses and/or certifications as and when required by state, regulatory agency, or hospital mandate.
• Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to, all applicable professional/regulatory practice acts, state/federal regulations, and policies and procedures of San Ramon Regional Medical Center (SRRMC) and Tenet Corporation.
• Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
• Adheres to SRRMC practices for pain management with specific consideration of patient's functional/developmental age, gender, cultural and/or personal preferences.
• Demonstrates appropriate use of restraints per SRRMC policy and procedures.
• Adheres to SRRMC practices for moderate sedation. Identifies resources for guidelines to ensure safe care and monitoring of patients.
• Identifies patients at risk for abuse as well as associated signs and symptoms. States mandatory reporting requirements for healthcare professionals.
• Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
• Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills, including: (1) medication administration, (2) intravenous therapy, (3) management of indwelling catheters and drains, and (4) safe use of any medical equipment, such as glucose meters, IV pumps).
• Functions in the capacity of Charge Nurse per unit Charge Nurse guidelines, when assigned. Ensures that the operations and nursing care follow Medical Center and department policies and standards. Keeps Manager/Director informed when difficulties and/or unusual situations occur. Provides for allotted meal and break periods for staff.
• Demonstrates the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures.
• Provides compassionate and caring support to families.
• Determines the presence and type of Advance Directive, as appropriate. Contacts appropriate resources to assist the patient and family as needed.
• Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided to patients, including an evaluation of patients' response to medications, treatments and procedures.
• Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed.
• Accesses facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities. Follows Medical Center's policy and procedure as they pertain to all hospital information systems.
• Practices Standard Precautions while providing patient care and performing other hospital services.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the hospital's environment of care plan.
• Actively supports the organization's mission, vision, values and goals. Participates in activities within the organization that support performance improvement.
• Attends mandatory TENET ethics program. Conducts all hospital business within the highest standard of ethical behavior.
• Assures that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy, confidentiality, and dignity in the provision of service.
