Job summary

Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department to join our night shift team. This full-time role features 3x12 hour nights across rotating weekends with a $20,000 sign-on bonus for qualified applicants.

As an ED RN you’ll provide high-quality patient care, collaborate with experienced nurses and physicians, and participate in continuous learning and mentorship within a fast-paced setting that serves the Athens and Etowah communities.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Licensure: Active Tennessee RN license (compact allowed) required.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
• Establishes a care plan in collaboration with patients and families.
• Supervises and mentors nursing staff on assigned shift.
• Assists in staffing decisions based on census and acuity.
• Provides direct patient care and coordinates transfers as needed.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are available for safe care.

How You'll Contribute

An Emergency Room RN who excels in this role:

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
• Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
• Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
• Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
• Provides direct patient care as needed.
• Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
• Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
• Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
• Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Certifications: BCLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred.
• Licenses: Active Tennessee RN license (single-state or compact) required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
