About the Unit

We are a Community ER that handles everything from birth to death, including traumas. We have 13 ED Beds + 6 Fast Track Beds + 2 CT/Psych Beds.

Summary of Primary Function

The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates nursing care, supervising licensed and unlicensed staff in accordance with nursing standards, organizational policies, and philosophies. The ED RN cares for patients in a fast-paced, high-intensity setting as part of an interprofessional team focused on achieving optimal outcomes. The RN models core cultural and safety behaviors to eliminate preventable harm and ensure a safe, high-quality care experience.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Collaborate with the care team to conduct patient assessments, analyze data, develop care plans, implement treatments, and evaluate outcomes.
  2. Administer medications safely following policies and practices.
  3. Serve as the point of contact for patient care coordination across departments.
  4. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to promote patient safety.
  5. Manage the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing care.
  6. Apply current and future emergency nursing practices and innovations.
  7. Provide care for individuals of all ages with various physical or emotional needs, from non-urgent to life-threatening cases.
  8. Coordinate with external agencies like law enforcement, EMS, and others for patient care.
  9. Understand the episodic and short-term nature of emergency care across various settings.
  10. Practice in accordance with the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Licensing/Certification
  • Current RN License in the state of practice or covered by a compact.
  • BLS (required upon hire), ACLS, PALS, NPR, TNCC (preferred).
Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).

Work Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience (required).
  • Recent ED or Critical Care experience (preferred).
Training

EPIC EHR training (preferred).
