Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department
Part-time / Night-shift (7:30pm - 8:00am)

General Summary

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses with greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this classification. They are not exhaustive of all job duties.

Clinical Practice:

  • Provides independent care to unit-specific patient populations; serves as a clinical resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, and functions effectively in roles specific to the unit.
  • Is accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode of care.
  • Is accountable to peers for advancing group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
  • Serves as a primary coordinating nurse; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient and family needs.

Service/Quality:

  • Assists in team development and evaluates adherence to Patient and Family Centered Care principles, suggesting improvement methods. Participates in outcome data collection (e.g., handoffs, medication safety).
  • Participates in initiatives addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  • Contributes to Performance Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, or research at the unit level.
  • Ensures compliance with standards and participates in unit-level regulatory activities.

Unit Operations:

  • Supports charge nurse decisions; performs charge role as needed.
  • Assists in developing clinical practice protocols and standards.
  • Participates in unit-based activities such as Performance Improvement, Professional Development, and Teamwork; supports action plan development and implementation.
  • Orients new staff to the unit decision-making processes.

Professional Development:

  • Serves as preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students. Contributes to skills development and attends educational offerings independently.

Education & Experience

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligible via Compact agreements.
  • Up-to-date mandatory training and classes.
  • At least one year of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required; unit-specific licensure as needed. Certification in Chemo or Infusion Nursing preferred.
  • Maintain 10 contact hours of education every two years.
  • Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Ensure patient safety by participating in safety initiatives, reporting adverse events, and implementing policies consistently. Develop good communication and working relationships with team members. Identify and communicate potential risks.

  • Pay Range: $39.81-$50.75/hour based on experience
  • Additional Compensation: Up to $20,000 Sign-On Bonus/Relocation Assistance/Shift differentials
