Job summary

McPherson Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Emergency Department. The RN will evaluate, plan, implement and document holistic nursing care for patients in a fast-paced trauma and emergency setting.

The role requires Kansas RN licensure, ACLS/PALS/TNCC within 6 months, and a BSN preferred. PRN shifts available; strong communication and teamwork are essential to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Associate degree Applied Science in Nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree (BSN).
  • Licenses: Kansas RN license in good standing; ACLS, PALS, and TNCC within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition and implement plan of care in the Emergency Department.
  • Administer medications following the five rights and monitor for adverse effects.
  • Communicate with physicians and multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
  • Triage and provide medical screening according to protocols.
  • Respond to emergencies (code blue) and lead teams per ACLS/PALS/TNCC.

Registered Nurse Job Summary:

Evaluate, plan, implement and document nursing care provided to all patients served. Function within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act to deliver comprehensive holistic nursing care to patients served.

Shift Availability:
  • PRN (variable hours as needed)
Registered Nurse Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
  • Works in the Emergency Department/Trauma Care environment.
  • Works as a team member in a multi-disciplinary approach to manage the workload and patient volumes.
Registered Nurse Principal Accountabilities:
  • Assess patient understanding of plan of care to better facilitate education opportunities and materials during hospital care working toward discharge.
  • Follows established protocols for narcotic and other medication or treatment administration ensuring the five (5) rights of medication administration are met.
  • Communicates pertinent information related to patient’s condition to inform physicians, additional staff nurses, and/or ancillary departments of patient needs and/or plan of care/treatment.
  • Documents concerns, findings, and actions, implementing appropriate plan of care related to patient’s diagnosis for continuity of care.
  • Assess patient’s condition continuously monitoring changes in status physical findings, vital signs, and coping skills ensuring appropriate care is given related to patient needs.
Department Specific Accountabilities:
  • Maintain a current knowledge of care and procedures for the emergency and trauma patient including an understanding of facility policies, and state and federal laws to provide optimal care for the patient.
  • Practices time management to optimize completion of multiple tasks accurately and consistently within a fast-paced, critical-care environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide a medical screening evaluation and triage appropriately.
  • Utilizes active listening skills to communicate with physicians, multi-disciplinary team members, patients and significant others involved in patient’s care. Effective communication at all times optimizes delivery of holistic approach to care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize cardiac rhythms and provide advance cardiac care to patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications relevant to the emergency/trauma and critical care environment including the required monitoring to assure safe nursing practice.
  • Prepared to respond to emergency situations within the department and responds to in-house or campus emergencies such as code blue situations and to act as the team leader following standard ACLS, PALS, and TNCC protocols.
Other Job Accountabilities:
  • Provide indirect patient care by maintaining an environment (inclusive of all aspects of care environment, patient treatment rooms, and equipment) that demonstrates immediate readiness for treatment/care of the emergency or trauma patient.
  • Active participation in the professional development of self and team members.
Registered Nurse Education:
  • Minimum:
    • Associate degree Applied Science in Nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN)
Registered Nurse Experience:
  • Minimum:
    • 1-2 years of Medical/Surgical experience
  • Preferred:
    • At least two years of Medical/Surgical or critical care experience
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
  • ACLS, PALS, and TNCC verified within 6 months of hiring.
