Job Title: Registered Nurse - Correctional Facility
Locations: Lancaster, Grafton, London, Toledo, Lebanon, Mansfield, Lima, Caldwell, Orient, Columbus
Pay: $35 to $60 depending on facility

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) in a correctional facility is responsible for providing medical care to inmates, ensuring their health and safety, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a secure environment. The RN will conduct assessments, provide treatments, administer medications, and collaborate with healthcare providers to address the medical needs of the inmate population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Assess and monitor the health status of inmates, including conducting physical exams and reviewing medical histories.
- Provide immediate care for injuries, illnesses, and other medical emergencies.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring accurate dosage and monitoring for side effects.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans tailored to individual inmate needs.
- Provide education to inmates on managing chronic conditions, medications, and overall health maintenance.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of all inmate interactions and treatments provided.
- Medical Procedures:
- Perform routine medical procedures such as wound care, catheterizations, blood draws, and other tasks as necessary.
- Ensure proper sterilization and use of medical equipment.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the correctional facility's medical and security teams, including physicians, psychiatrists, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, to ensure comprehensive care.
- Provide recommendations for inmate healthcare and assist with referrals to specialists when needed.
- Health Education:
- Educate inmates about personal hygiene, mental health, nutrition, and preventative health care.
- Provide counseling to inmates regarding health concerns, such as substance abuse, STDs, and other common issues.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure adherence to all correctional facility policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations related to healthcare.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all patient care activities.
- Ensure confidentiality and privacy in line with HIPAA guidelines.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergency medical situations, including accidents, injuries, and health crises within the facility.
- Assist in the emergency evacuation of inmates if required.
- Health Services Administration:
- Monitor the inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, ensuring stock levels are sufficient.
- Assist with the management of health-related administrative tasks, such as processing inmate medical requests and forms.
Qualifications:
- Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in a clinical or hospital setting; experience in correctional healthcare is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with inmates, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work in a potentially stressful and high-security environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and efficiently.
Working Conditions:
- The role will involve working in a correctional facility with strict security protocols.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts based on facility needs.
