Job description

UC Health is hiring a Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Nurse (CN I) for the Gastrointestinal 8 East unit for the Night Shift at UC Medical Center.

The Gastrointestinal Nurse will support the Medical Center's medicine and Level 1 Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures. This 16-bed unit has ratios ranging from 4 to 6 patients per nurse. The nurse will help manage liver patients (pre- and post-transplant), cystic fibrosis patients, many off-service patients, and some behavioral health components with medical needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Current Ohio RN License.

The RN Clinical Nurse (CN I) holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to individuals and groups. The RN applies principles from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Care is culturally sensitive and age-specific.

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary care plans in collaboration with healthcare team members and patients/families, within unit standards.
  • Communicates care plans effectively to all involved staff and prioritizes care based on patient assessments and needs.
  • Provides clear treatment instructions to patients and families, involving them in assessment and ongoing care.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to behavioral health issues, psychological needs, or cultural/religious norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and cooperation to meet unit needs.
  • Documents nursing processes accurately and concisely, including evaluations, in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Acts as a resource and mentor for new staff, floaters, and supplemental team members.
  • Maintains personal professional development and contributes to peers’ growth.
