The Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) at Trinity Health Livingston Hospital ICU/PCU will lead nursing practice and quality initiatives in a 40-bed high-acuity unit, driving safety and outcomes for patients and colleagues.

As a change agent, the CPL translates evidence into practice, leads unit governance, mentors staff, partners with physicians, and supports residency programs to advance clinical excellence and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Master’s of Science in Nursing required (Clinical, Education or Administration).
  • 3–5 years acute care nursing with leadership or staff education experience.
  • Current RN licensure in Michigan (state).

Responsibilities

  • Perform holistic assessments and develop care plans with the care team.
  • Consult on complex patient care issues and document progress in the EMR.
  • Prepare patients and families for care across the continuum, prioritizing high-risk cases.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to synthesize data for optimal outcomes.
  • Apply evidence-based practice to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Lead unit leadership activities and participate in daily quality huddles.
  • Coach staff and reinforce nursing practice expectations.
  • Lead shared governance initiatives and identify resources to improve care while reducing waste.
  • Drive unit-level quality improvement and root cause analysis for safety.
  • Support professional development and residency program initiatives for nursing staff.

POSITION PURPOSE
  • The Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) acts as a member of the nursing leadership team responsible for driving safety and ensuring quality for patients and colleagues at the unit level.

  • The CPL serves as a change agent to translate and integrate evidence into practice; to design and evaluate care and improve outcomes.

  • As the process owner for nursing practice and quality, the CPL focuses on key nurse-sensitive indicators for improvement, utilizing process improvement methods to drive best practice.

  • This position will support Trinity Health Livingston Hospital ICU/PCU unit, a 40-bed high-acuity unit within Trinity Health Livingston's newly opened Brighton hospital, providing critical and progressive care services in a modern environment designed to support seamless transitions across levels of care, advanced monitoring capabilities, and exceptional patient outcomes.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: A Master's of Science in Nursing (Clinical, Education, Administration)

  • Experience: Three to five years of acute care nursing for similar patient population. Progressive experience in health care including involvement in direct patient care, educating staff, supervising staff, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.

  • Licensure: Current licensure as Registered Nurse in state of Michigan

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Performs and oversees the collection of holistic assessments and the development and implementation of a plan of care. Assesses patient’s response to treatment and care in collaboration with other care providers.

  • Consults on complex problems in client care, documents findings and progress in electronic record. Consults with physicians and other healthcare providers to communicate patient progress.

  • Ensures patient/family preparation for care across continuum prioritizing for high risk, chronically ill, complex, medically fragile patients.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills by synthesizing multiple data elements to evaluate and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • Assimilates and applies research/evidence‑based practice information that supports improved patient care outcomes.

  • Collaborates as a member of unit leadership to achieve effective nursing operations:

  • Leads and or actively participates in daily quality huddles

  • Formally coaches and reinforces identified behaviors and established expectations related to nursing practice

  • Leads, supports and participates in shared governance activities

  • Identifies and substantiates resources needed for optimal patient care. Looks for opportunities to reduce costs and waste

  • Leads clinical practice at the unit level to achieve unit quality improvement and outcome‑based initiatives. Initiates unit‑based system reviews such as learning from defects and participate in root cause analyses to improve the quality of patient care delivery; critically evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety.

  • Supports the clinical and professional development of nursing colleagues through mentoring, coaching and role modeling, including residency program and project development.
