Job description

Our state-of-the-art Pediatric Operating Room (OR) is located within the Children's Hospital of Richmond, which opened in April 2023. Our Pediatric Perioperative Services Team provides comprehensive, around-the-clock pediatric care.

Our facility features six fully equipped Operating Rooms and two Procedure Rooms, ensuring high-quality, child-friendly care for our young patients.

We perform 12 to 24 cases daily across various specialties, including Otolaryngology (ENT), Genitourinary (GU), Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neuro, Cardiac, and Trauma.

We seek highly skilled professionals dedicated to excellent patient care. Experience in a Level 1 Pediatric OR is preferred, but we also welcome OR nurses with at least 1 year of OR experience and a passion for pediatric care.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
  • Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state
Requirements for Continued Employment:
  • Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
Experience REQUIRED:
  • Clin I: N/A
  • Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
  • Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
Experience PREFERRED:
  • Clin I: Experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in acute care or relevant setting
  • Clin II, Clin III: Academic healthcare experience; experience with similar patient populations
Education/Training REQUIRED:
  • Diploma or Associate Degree from an approved nursing program
  • All RNs without a Bachelor's degree must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years of start date unless grandfathered
Preferred Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited program
  • Clin III: Certification in specialty area
Independent Actions:

Follow physician/provider orders, practice within Virginia nursing regulations, adhere to ANA Code of Ethics, and comply with hospital policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Organize work, delegate, and supervise other staff including RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, and secretaries.

Additional Requirements:
  • Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays; schedules will be coordinated with your Nurse/Practice Manager.
  • Schedules may be adjusted as needed.

Based on unit assignment.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Exposure to hazardous/infectious substances.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, reading, logical thinking.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, noisy environment with multiple priorities.
