Job Summary:

The Level II Competent Registered Nurse is clinically able to care for patients. The nurse demonstrates the ability to collaborate with the healthcare team to improve the quality of care by incorporating research and evidence-based practice. The RN assumes accountability and responsibility for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate nursing care, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel, using the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Involve patients, families, and the healthcare team in care planning, including teaching and discharge planning.
  • Communicate and coordinate care plans and pertinent information among team members.
  • Assist leadership in defining standards of excellence and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in orientation of new staff members.
  • Serve as a point of contact for hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in daily operational activities to ensure a safe environment.
  • Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental committees for policy development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with RN experience.
  • Valid RN License from Virginia or a reciprocal state.
  • BSN preferred.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  • AHA ACLS Provider required within 6 months.
  • NIHSS (Bluecloud) required within 90 days.
Additional Requirements for External Temporary RN Program:
  • Required at hire for certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP if specified.
  • Other certifications like CPI, ONS, NIHSS required within 30 days if specified.
  • TNCC or ENPC required within 30 days or by the next available course if specified.
