Job summary

Lifepoint Health is recruiting for a Registered Nurse (RN) in behavioral health at Haywood Regional Medical Center in North Carolina. The unit is 33 beds serving adult and geriatric patients with a 1:6-1:9 nurse-to-patient ratio, and night shifts on a 12-hour schedule (7p-7a) PRN with some holiday/weekend requirements.

The role focuses on assessments, interventions, care plans, and documentation, within a supportive team environment dedicated to patient well-being and recovery.

Qualifications

• Current North Carolina or compact RN license is required.
• Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school is required.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of nursing experience is preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate patient assessments and identify patient needs.
• Identify and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
• Provide age-appropriate care based on patient condition.
• Document medical necessity in the medical record in a timely manner.
• Complete and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
• Perform timely and accurate QI assessments.

Join our team in a 33-bed Behavioral Health Unit specializing in adult and geriatric patients.

Staffed with compassionate healthcare professionals, including RNs, CNAs, Mental Health Assistants, Psychiatrists, and Mental Health Providers. Operating with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6-1:9, our unit treats a variety of diagnoses such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Patients may present with psychosis, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, mania, or exacerbations of mental illness. This role offers an opportunity to work collaboratively in a supportive environment focused on providing quality care and support to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.

How You'll Contribute

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record

What We're Looking For

• Applicants should have a current North Carolina or compact state Registered Nurse license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
