The Ambulatory Surgery Center is an outpatient surgery center that performs 70 to 80% orthopedic cases and a variety of other specialties. The patient population we serve is 6 months of age and above. Experienced candidates are encouraged to apply to this fast-paced, efficient surgery center. Surgical RN for ambulatory surgery center in the VCU Short Pump Pavilion. Monday-Friday day shift hours—no holidays, no weekends, no call!

Assists the healthcare team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting. Delivers and accurately documents age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care. Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.

**Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:**
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state

**Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:**
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

**Experience REQUIRED:**
Clin I: N/A
Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience

**Experience PREFERRED:**
Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant area
Clin II, Clin III: Academic healthcare experience; experience with similar patient populations in acute care or relevant area

**Education/training REQUIRED:**
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an approved nursing program. All RNs without a BSN must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years unless grandfathered.

**Education/training PREFERRED:**
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III: Certification in a specialty area

**Independent action(s) required:**
Follows physician/licensed provider orders. Practices within Virginia nursing regulations. Guided by the ANA Code of Ethics and national standards. Complies with VCUHS policies and procedures.

**Supervisory responsibilities:**
Organizes work and delegates tasks to team members (RN, LPN, Care Partners, Secretaries, etc.).

**Additional requirements:**
Clinicians work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are established with management and may be adjusted as needed.

**Age-specific groups served:**
Based on unit assignment.

**Physical requirements:**
Lifting 20-50 lbs, exposure to hazardous/infectious substances, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching. Mental skills include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking. The environment is fast-paced and noisy, requiring handling multiple priorities and customer interactions.
