Job Levels and Responsibilities
Clinical Nurse I
  • Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs.
  • Assists with prevention of illness and injury, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision.
  • Provides direction, education, and begins to develop leadership skills at the unit level.
  • Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities/interactions.
Clinical Nurse II
  • Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies knowledge to specific patient populations.
  • Assists with prevention, wellness, and comfort, recognizing patient situation changes and intervening appropriately.
  • Mobilizes resources to meet individual patient and family needs.
  • Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership at the unit level.
  • Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities/interactions.
Clinical Nurse III
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level, applying it to specific patient populations.
  • Assists with prevention, wellness, and comfort, anticipating patient changes and intervening appropriately.
  • Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
  • Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities/interactions.
Licensure and Certification Requirements

Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state. For continued employment: Virginia RN license and AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience Requirements
  • Clin I: N/A
  • Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
  • Clin III: 3 years clinical experience
Preferred Experience
  • Clin I: Experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in acute care or relevant area.
  • Clin II & III: Academic healthcare experience; experience with similar patient populations in acute care.
Education/Training
  • All levels: Diploma or Associate's Degree from an approved nursing program.
  • RN without a Bachelor's: Must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete within five years unless grandfathered.
Additional Requirements
  • Follows documented orders and practices within Virginia nursing regulations.
  • Guided by ANA Code of Ethics and established standards.
  • Organizes work, delegates, and supervises others.
  • Availability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, with schedules established with the Nurse/Practice Manager.
Physical and Other Requirements

Physical lifting (20-50 lbs.), exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and mental skills such as reasoning, problem-solving, and clear communication. Ability to handle a fast-paced, noisy environment with multiple priorities.
