Company Description
Full Time Rotating Shift - EXPERIENCED RNs with more than 1 year experience in a hospital inpatient unit - $20,000 SIGN ON BONUS

This position is on a 20-bed Neuro Acute Floor focusing on neurological disorders under three services: Neurosurgery, General Neurology, and Stroke Neurology. Diagnoses may include ischemic stroke, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders, cervical fusions, lumbar fusions, etc. The staffing includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Charge RNs working 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a). The team collaborates with other services to ensure safe patient discharges or transfers. Skills utilized include cardiac rhythm interpretation, neurological assessments, spinal assessments, pre-op and post-op education, surgical dressing changes, drains, wounds, tracheostomy care, etc.

Job Description

General Summary

  • This role is the minimum for nurses with over 12 months of experience at UMMC. The nurse must be competent in required skills, participate in unit governance, and adhere to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. The nurse independently provides and coordinates care within a clinical specialty, works effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and demonstrates professional nursing practice. The nurse is accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager for care quality, group practice advancement, and overall performance.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of probation, current mandatory training, and Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
  • Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
  • Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Leadership ability, such as charge nurse or preceptor effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in computer systems for patient information management.
  • Knowledge of growth, development, and patient-specific assessments across the lifespan.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Patient Safety

  • Ensure safety during job functions and participate in safety initiatives.
  • Take action on observed risks, report adverse events and near misses, and communicate risks to management.
