General Summary

• This role is considered the minimum for all nurses at UMMC with over 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in required skills and fully participate in unit governance. They will practice according to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter, providing and coordinating care within a clinical specialty. The nurse will serve as an effective team member, demonstrating and modeling the full range of nursing practice, and participating in strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost efficiency. They are accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager for care processes, outcomes, group practice advancement, and work performance.

Full Time Rotating Shift - EXPERIENCED RNs (with >1 year hospital inpatient experience) - $20,000 SIGN ON BONUS

This position is on a 20-bed Neuro Acute Floor specializing in neurological disorders, including Neurosurgery, General Neurology, and Stroke Neurology. Diagnoses may include ischemic stroke, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders, cervical and lumbar fusions. Staff includes RNs, PCTs, and Charge RNs working 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a). The team collaborates across services to ensure safe patient discharges or transfers. Skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, neurological and spinal assessments, pre/post-op education, dressing changes, wound care, tracheostomy care, and more.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Successful completion of probation, current mandatory classes/training.
• Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
• Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
• Member of a professional organization.
• Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead, such as as charge nurse, preceptor, or resource, and work effectively in a team.
• Proficiency with computer systems managing patient data.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles, ability to assess patient needs across lifespan.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
