Job Summary

Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient/family centered care. Demonstrates clinical competency utilizing evidence-based practices/research in all areas of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Incorporates knowledge of safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement throughout the nursing process. Identifies patient, unit, and organizational priorities and incorporates them into the nursing process.

Adheres to all organizational policies and compliance requirements including licensure renewal, training, employee health screenings, attendance, dress code, patient confidentiality, infection control, medication administration, and understands regulatory agency requirements (TJC, DHEC, CMS). Provides care within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.

The role involves shift work, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Accountabilities

  1. Collects data and completes nursing assessments using appropriate standards and tools. Recognizes changes in patient status and response to interventions. Sets nursing priorities based on assessments, validating and documenting these with the healthcare team.
  2. Planning/Outcomes: Develops and updates individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team, including discharge planning and referrals.
  3. Implementation: Provides direct patient care, delegates tasks appropriately, monitors care quality, and maintains safety standards. Utilizes technology and performance indicators for quality assurance.
  4. Evaluation: Reassesses patient responses, evaluates care effectiveness, documents progress, and revises plans as needed. Discusses outcomes with team members and identifies opportunities for quality improvement.
  5. Patient Family Education/Teaching: Assesses learning needs, teaches using understandable language, and involves patients and families in care. Communicates educational needs across the healthcare team.
  6. Professional Accountability: Maintains competence, adheres to standards and regulations, documents appropriately, advocates for patients, and collaborates with the healthcare team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
  • One year of RN experience.

Licensure/Registrations/Certifications: Licensed RN in South Carolina.

In Lieu of Experience: Completion of Prisma Health Nurse Residency or comparable program; or one year LPN experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Effective at data conversion and other relevant skills.
