Position Summary

The Charge Nurse provides quality care within the scope of practice, manages supervision of nursing staff, and promotes a safe environment. They act as a patient advocate and a leader to ensure best practices in nursing.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Active RN license in the state of employment
• CPR certification
• Knowledge of state laws and regulations
• Completion of clinical competencies
• Preferred: Acute care experience in correctional facilities

Essential Functions

• Supervises nursing staff and shares responsibility for care delivery
• Participates in recruitment, training, and evaluations
• Develops and implements policies and procedures
• Collaborates with healthcare team members
• Maintains records and reports
• Administers medications and treatments
• Ensures safety and security of medications and supplies
• Assesses patient conditions and develops care plans
• Communicates with physicians and documents care
• Performs other duties as assigned
