Overview
4 West Med/Surg is a 30-bed unit caring for patients who have undergone a spinal procedure or general surgical procedure and patients experience acute medical conditions including but not limited to sepsis, pulmonary diagnoses, diabetes, heart failure, electrolyte imbalances, etc. We are a smaller hospital with a family atmosphere. All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses must apply for the Registered Nurse Residency position.
Applications are accepted year round for 4 main cohorts including March, June, August, and October. Your cohort will be dependent on your start date. Start dates are dependent on licensure, onboarding, unit availability as well as your personal preference.

Successfully functions as a Registered Nurse as defined in Iowa Nursing Regulations and Practice Act. Provides nursing care for patients and families and maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other caregivers.

Graduate of accredited nursing program. Newly licensed nurse within the last 6 months. Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. Completion of residency program within the first 12 months of employment. Dept of Labor Level III (Medium) Work. Candidates must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment strength and agility test at Medium Level of Work. Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English. EOE M/F/V/D
