The role you’ll contribute:

The Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within their scope of responsibility. The RN provides direct patient care, collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to improve patient outcomes. The RN demonstrates leadership and professional accountability, strives to advance from novice to expert, and advocates for patients, serving as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health. The RN works within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, all regulatory standards, and established policies, protocols, and procedures.

• Utilizes the Nursing Process (Assess, Plan, Implement, and Evaluate) to provide optimal patient care.
• Demonstrates accurate assessment skills appropriate to the patient population, based on evidence, policy, and practice standards, regardless of patient complexity or need.
• Ensures patient safety by adhering to policies and procedures and utilizing safety resources such as mPPID. Implements care plans based on physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
• Prioritizes nursing interventions based on patient needs and unit resources.
• Participates actively in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary rounds, and hourly rounding to gather information, anticipate needs, and facilitate smooth hand-offs.
