The role you’ll contribute:

The Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within his/her scope. The RN provides direct patient care, collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to deliver care to a specific patient population. The RN uses the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.

The RN demonstrates leadership and management skills, professional accountability, and growth. The RN aims to advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care and advocate for patients. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, working within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, and established policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes the Nursing Process (Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate) to provide optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrates accurate assessment skills appropriate to the patient population, based on evidence, policy, and practice standards, regardless of patient complexity or need.
  • Ensures patient safety by adhering to policies and procedures and utilizing safety resources such as mPPID. Implements care plans based on physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Prioritizes nursing interventions based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Participates in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary rounds, and hourly rounding to gather information, anticipate needs, and ensure smooth hand-offs.

The expertise and experiences needed to succeed:

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
