Level 1 Trauma Center
Teaching Hospital
Nurses on this unit need Med Surg experience, particularly with inpatients pre- or post-surgical services. The focus is mainly on surgical experience, caring for patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT. Some patients will require Step down care. Ratios are 5 or 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for the Step Down (SD) area.
4E candidates will care for post-operative patients, including those with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT. 4W is the surgical transplant area, with post-op and Step down patients, including new and returning transplant patients needing close monitoring for rejection, reaction, and infection.
