Job Summary
Gritman Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Registered Nurse (RN) for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Same Day Center. Job Summary
Gritman Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Registered Nurse (RN) for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Same Day Center. This role involves providing age-appropriate, high-quality care through all phases of the recovery process. The RN will work closely with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe, effective patient outcomes, consistently demonstrating Gritman Medical Center’s commitment to compassionate, excellent care. This role requires adherence to nursing standards set by ASPAN, the Idaho State Board of Nursing, and the Joint Commission.
Responsibilities
PACU Preparation and Patient Care
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to gather needed supplies and ensure optimal patient positioning.
- Prepare the PACU for daily operations, including performing daily crash cart checks and Accu-Chek tests.
- Follow proper aseptic techniques and maintain PACU-specific equipment knowledge across all patient age groups.
- Conduct patient assessments, monitor patient outcomes, and document care plans accurately.
Administrative And Safety Responsibilities
- Order and restock supplies to maintain resource availability.
- Assist in onboarding and orienting new staff and students.
- Comply with safety regulations and departmental protocols, ensuring patient and staff well-being.
- Cooperate with risk management and Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to enhance service quality.
Performance Improvement
- Stay current with professional nursing techniques through continuing education.
- Actively participate in unit meetings, nursing educational programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain knowledge of hospital and PACU-specific policies and procedures.

Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school; eligible for Idaho State Nursing Board examination or licensure by reciprocity.
- Licenses/Certifications: Active RN license in Idaho (or compact state), current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in aseptic technique and PACU principles.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, able to manage stress effectively.
- Ability to assess patient needs across the lifespan and apply medical knowledge to ensure proper care.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and adapting to new practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years in PACU or Recovery is highly preferred.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., frequently push/pull medical equipment, and perform other physical tasks related to patient care.
- Capable of standing for extended periods and occasionally stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and patient elements, with potential for irregular hours/shifts.
- Must be comfortable handling emergencies and high-pressure situations.
