Position Title: Registered Nurse PRN Days 2NS Olathe Hospital 20333 W. 151st St.

Position Summary / Career Interest

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. He/she provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. He/she integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care. The RN collaborates with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team.

He/she ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving. The RN integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and age-specific needs. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards, and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  1. Consistently meets work schedule.
  2. Demonstrates critical thinking utilizing all aspects of the nursing process.
  3. Maintains a safe environment for patients.
  4. Coordinates healthcare services with hospital, vendors, physician's offices, and other institutions.
  5. Answers patient/significant others' phone calls, evaluates patient's needs, and triages patient care.
  6. Provides patient/family education using available resources.
  7. Acts as liaison between patient, significant others, and the health team members.
  8. Identifies areas for professional growth.
  9. Participates fully as a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team.
  10. Independently performs comprehensive assessments to provide effective patient care for specific populations.
  11. Anticipates and intervenes appropriately when there are concerns related to patient and staff safety.
  12. Communicates professionally and appropriately when interacting with patients, families, nurses, and other medical professionals.
  13. Adheres to hospital policies related to medication safety, including order writing, administration, double checks, and other practices.
  14. Assesses patient's/family's readiness to learn, organizes and executes individualized teaching plans, evaluates understanding, and modifies approaches as necessary.
  15. Develops, implements, and evaluates care plans that recognize changes in patient conditions and adapt as needed.
  16. Delegates tasks appropriately and takes a leadership role in fostering a supportive team environment.
  17. Utilizes technology correctly for patient care, compliance, and policy adherence.
  18. Seeks additional learning experiences within the practice area, such as certifications, consultations, inservices, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  19. Models individualized therapeutic communication based on patient and family psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  20. Performs the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the unit or department.
  21. Other duties as assigned, with responsibilities varying by department or unit.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) - Kansas State Board of Nursing or compact license
  • CPR/AED/BLS certification - other BLS within 14 days
  • Additional unit-specific certifications or experience may be required depending on the unit.
