Job summary

Davidson College seeks a Temporary PRN Registered Nurse to provide primary care nursing services in an outpatient clinic during the Fall and Spring semesters. The RN will perform triage, assessment, phlebotomy, basic labs, vaccinations, wound care and assist with women's health exams, under physician guidance.

Must hold an active NC RN license and CPR/AED, with at least 3 years of nursing experience; college health or urgent care experience preferred.

Qualifications

• RN with active North Carolina license.
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
• Experience in college health, primary care or urgent care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing triage and assessment for student patients.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing.
• Administer vaccines, medications, and wound care under provider orders.
• Assist with Women's health exams, I&Ds, suturing, and related tasks as needed.
• Document accurately in the EMR and maintain patient privacy.
• Respond to inquiries and triage via phone/email.
• Maintain infection control standards and coordinate referrals.

Job description

The Temporary PRN Registered Nurse provides primary care nursing services in an outpatient clinic during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Job duties:

• Provides nursing triage, assessment of the physical and emotional condition of the student patient, provides appropriate care and treatment.
• Ability to work independently using decision making judgement with regard to nursing diagnosis and treatment (using Standing Orders)
• Documents effectively and accurately in an Electronic Medical Record.
• Performs CLIA waived point of care laboratory testing of patient specimens.
• Performs phlebotomy, and prepares specimens for reference lab.
• Performs therapeutic measures and nursing services ordered by health center physicians and Nurse Practitioners including medications, vaccines, allergy injections, ear lavage, wound care and EKG
• Works closely with the Medical Provider to assist with Women's health exams, I&Ds, suturing, eye tray and other tasks as needed. Acts as a chaperone during sensitive exams.
• Ability to analyze emergency situations and take prompt action
• Responds to telephone and email inquiries, and effectively triages through clear communication. Schedule patients to be seen as appropriate.
• Maintains quality, safety, and infection control standards
• Makes and follows up on referrals for radiology and to community specialty practices
• Provides information and instructions regarding preventative health, health practices and self-care
• Maintains patient privacy and the security of patient information

Qualifications:

• RN with at least 3 years of experience.
• Current active NC Registered Nurse license.
• Previous experience in college health, public health, primary care or urgent care/emergency room preferred.
• Current certification in CPR/AED.
