Supervises and directs patient care in the pre-procedure and post-procedure areas. Assesses patient needs, develops individual care plans, and identifies outcomes. Ensures appropriate techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice. Demonstrates knowledge of special needs for various age groups including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients when providing care in the surgical suite.
Assists physicians and other personnel to ensure good outcomes. Demonstrates understanding of patient care in the pre- and post-procedure areas, infection control practices, and functions effectively in emergency situations. Provides patient and family education, assists in local monitoring of surgical cases, and manages pre-admission nursing calls and chart reviews.
Develops individualized care plans based on assessments, diagnoses, and knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, procedures, and standards of care. Prioritizes and provides nursing care accordingly. Participates in continuing education to expand scope of practice. Manages care of patients receiving sedation or analgesic medications during invasive procedures, including medication administration, monitoring, discharge instructions, family teaching, and safety concerns. Other duties as assigned.
Verifies surgical consent, updates physician order sets, smart phrases, and discharge instructions in EPIC. Relays special requests and pertinent information. Performs patient teaching, outbound follow-up calls, and assesses physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational, and developmental dimensions from pre-op to discharge.
