Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients according to organizational policies and professional nursing standards. It is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. The role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data, and plan, provide, and evaluate patient care appropriate to their physical and developmental age.

Essential Functions
  1. Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and post-operative needs. Review patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within the appropriate timeframe. Review diagnostics and laboratory data, report abnormal results to physicians, and complete assessments as needed.
  2. Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, based on assessment data and input from the patient, family, and healthcare team. Develop realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient/family, considering their physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs. Review and revise the care plan based on patient progress.
  3. Implement the care plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities. Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, standards, and regulations. Communicate effectively to ensure continuity of care.
  4. Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, revising the plan as needed. Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess progress towards goals and outcomes. Document all assessments, care, and evaluations accurately and timely in the patient record.
  5. Provide care based on the best available evidence, participate in research activities, and contribute to facility leadership. Engage in education, role development, and orientation of staff, patients, students, families, and visitors. Support growth through precepting and mentoring.
  6. Contribute to excellent patient outcomes by participating in quality improvement activities and professional organizations.
  7. In some locations, provide relief charge nurse duties and manage workflow.
  8. Perform all functions in accordance with policies, procedures, regulations, and professional standards.
  9. Deliver excellent service to all customers, demonstrating core and leadership behaviors daily.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing or higher.
  • Valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • *PALS certification required within 90 days if assigned to ASC pediatrics services.
  • Minimum one-year RN experience in PreOp/PACU (e.g., ICU, ED) for core (FT/PT) roles.
  • For RNs with no PreOp/PACU experience, enrollment in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
  • For new licensed RNs, enrollment in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
  • PRN: Minimum two years RN experience in PreOp/PACU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PreOp/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.
