Job summary

Responsibilities

We are actively hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp PACU.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or healthcare organization policies and procedures, including assessment of cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological systems, hemodynamic stability, pain, comfort needs, and mental status.
  • Interpret information accurately from various monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of common disease processes.
  • Describe physiology related to anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
  • Apply scoring systems/discharge criteria (e.g., Aldrete Score, PARSAP, PADSS, White score) for patient transfer as per organizational policy.
  • Develop and implement individualized perianesthesia care plans, including managing patient recovery from anesthesia, protecting from injury, communicating status, managing pain, administering medications safely, and maintaining patient safety and comfort.
  • Evaluate patient progress and transfer care as needed.
  • Provide accurate hand-off reports and delegate tasks according to legal and professional standards.
  • Document care thoroughly, collaborate with disciplines, participate in quality improvement, and pursue professional growth.
  • Act as a patient advocate, maintain confidentiality, and comply with policies.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Minimum one year of Preoperative or PACU experience.
  • Medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current state nursing license in good standing.
  • Current BLS/BCLS certification within 90 days of employment.
  • ACLS certification within 90 days of employment.
  • PALS certification required if pediatric care is included, within 90 days of employment.
