Responsibilities

We are actively hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp PACU.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures, including assessment of the cardiovascular system, respiratory system and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status.
  • Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Apply relevant scoring systems/discharge criteria for patient transfer (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score, PARSAP, PADSS, White score) as defined by organizational policy.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care and implement it, including managing patient recovery from anesthesia (general, monitored, regional, local), protecting from injury, communicating status, managing pain, administering medications safely, maintaining tissue perfusion and system stability, ensuring normothermia, preventing infection, and managing co-morbid conditions.
  • Assess patient knowledge and involve support persons in care decisions.
  • Protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy, providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards.
  • Evaluate patient progress, transfer care as needed, and provide accurate hand-offs.
  • Delegate tasks according to legal and professional standards, document care thoroughly, collaborate with other disciplines, participate in quality improvement, and maintain competencies.
  • Act as a patient advocate, comply with policies, participate in team activities, demonstrate fiscal responsibility, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience required.
  • Medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current state licensure, BLS/BCLS certification within 90 days, ACLS certification within 90 days, PALS certification if pediatric care is included.
