Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with one year of PreOp or PACU experience.
  • Current state licensure in good standing and BLS/ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

We are actively hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp PACU.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures, including assessment of:
    • cardiovascular system,
    • respiratory system and airway management needs,
    • neurological system,
    • hemodynamic stability,
    • pain and comfort needs, and
    • mental status.
  • Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Apply relevant scoring systems/discharge criteria for patient transfer (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score, PARSAP, PADSS, White score) as defined by organizational policy.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care, including interventions such as:
    • Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia (general, monitored anesthesia care, regional, local),
    • Protecting patients from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects,
    • Communicating patient status throughout the continuum of care,
    • Providing acute pain and comfort management,
    • Administering medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration,
    • Maintaining wound and tissue perfusion integrity,
    • Monitoring and maintaining systems and balances at or above baseline levels,
    • Ensuring normothermia,
    • Protecting against infection,
    • Managing co-morbid conditions,
    • Assessing and educating patients/support persons,
    • Involving patients in their care decisions,
    • Protecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy,
    • Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care,
    • Ensuring consistent care across settings.
  • Evaluate patient progress and transfer care as needed.
  • Provide accurate, concise hand-off reports.
  • Delegate tasks according to legal and organizational standards.
  • Document care thoroughly and accurately.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in performance appraisals.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster team relationships.
  • Maintain competencies and pursue professional growth.
  • Act as a patient advocate, maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Comply with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and safety huddles.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of Preoperative or PACU experience required.
  • Medical/surgical nursing experience.
  • Current state licensure in good standing.
  • Successful completion of BLS/BCLS within 90 days or current certification.
  • Successful completion of ACLS within 90 days or current certification.
  • Successful completion of PALS if pediatric care is included, within 90 days or current certification.
