Responsibilities

We are actively hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp PACU.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or healthcare organization policies and procedures, including assessment of:
    • cardiovascular system,
    • respiratory system and airway management needs,
    • neurological system,
    • hemodynamic stability,
    • pain and comfort needs, and
    • mental status.
  • Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Apply relevant scoring systems/discharge criteria for patient transfer (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White score) accurately as defined by organizational policy.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care, including interventions such as:
    • Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia (general, monitored anesthesia care, regional, local).
    • Protecting the patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
    • Communicating the patient’s current status throughout the peri-anesthesia continuum.
    • Providing pain and comfort management as needed.
    • Administering medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration.
    • Performing interventions to maintain wound integrity, tissue perfusion, and system balances at or above baseline levels.
    • Ensuring the patient is at or returned to normothermia postoperatively.
    • Protecting the patient from infection.
    • Managing co-morbid conditions and fluid management as prescribed.
    • Assessing knowledge and providing education to the patient/support person.
    • Involving the patient/support person in care decisions and rehabilitation.
    • Protecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
    • Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards.
    • Ensuring consistent care regardless of setting.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes.
  • Transfer care as needed and provide accurate hand-off reports.
  • Delegate tasks according to laws and job descriptions.
  • Document care thoroughly and accurately.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Engage in performance appraisal and professional growth.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain competencies and act as a patient advocate.
  • Comply with policies and participate in team activities.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and perform other duties as assigned.
