Registered Nurse - Pre/Post/PACU - Heart and Vascular Center RMC - FT - Day

Job Overview

Position Overview:

PACU RNs work 4/10 hour shifts from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pre & Post 4/10 hours from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and/or 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the possibility of on-call.

SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

This role fosters an environment that includes the core mission, delivering quality care to patients through a team effort in the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN assures patient safety by executing appropriate policies, serves as an advocate by providing emotional and informational support to patients and families, and contributes to the organization's readiness for various regulatory agencies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience: 2 years previous PACU or critical care experience preferred.

Other Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse – NJ or Registered Nurse – NLC multi-state.

Certification Requirements:

  • Requires ATCN or TNCC (or must obtain within 1 year of hire) AND 8 hours of Trauma-related Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours annually if assigned to: RMC ICU/CCU, RMC Surgical Trauma Unit, RMC PACU, Emergency Department (all campuses).
  • Requires NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation) AND 8 hours of Stroke-related Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours annually if assigned to: Critical Care, Intermediate Care Unit, Emergency Department, Neuro Units, Cardiology Inpatient at Hopewell, Peds ED, PACU, Interventional Radiology, CNI, Observation.
  • Requires ACLS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Critical Care/Intermediate/Telemetry, Emergency Rooms, Pediatrics/Pediatrics Emergency Room, Labor & Delivery, Surgical Services (not to include Perioperative), Interventional Procedures, Observation.
  • Requires NRP (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Maternity Services, Emergency Room RMC/Deborah.
  • Requires PALS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Emergency Rooms, Infant Follow-Up, Surgical Services (only PACU & Same Day Surgery), Pediatrics/Pediatric ED.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong problem solving and decision making skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and considerable knowledge of principles, practices, and current trends in nursing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Delivers quality care to patients through a team effort in the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assures patient safety by executing appropriate policies & procedures.
  • Provides appropriate support for pain management and assists patients/families in identifying individualized comfort measures.
  • Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patients' control and participation in their recovery.
  • Participates in unit-based and/or hospital-based committees and performance improvement activities.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent physical demands include: Push/Pull, Twisting, Bending, Reaching forward, Reaching overhead, Squat/kneel/crawl, Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities, Keyboard use/repetitive motion.
