Job summary

Sisters of Mercy of the Americas is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for an on-site role at the Merion Station convent in PA. The RN will provide direct nursing care, medication management, and care coordination for Sisters, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.

The position requires a PA RN license, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Location: Merion Station, PA

Schedule: Per Diem (As Needed) Days and Evenings

Salary Range: 35-45 per hour.

Telecommute Eligibility: This is an essential, on-site position and is not eligible for telecommuting.

This is not a contracted position.

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for supporting the health and wellness of the Sisters residing in the convent. Working collaboratively with individual Sisters and the interdisciplinary care team, the RN assesses needs, develops and coordinates care plans, provides direct nursing services, and connects Sisters with appropriate resources.

Through compassionate care, advocacy, communication, and education, the RN helps Sisters maintain wellness, dignity, independence, and quality of life. This position also performs Charge Nurse responsibilities when scheduled.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care, medication management, clinical case management, and resource coordination.
  • Assess and document changes in health status, symptoms, treatments, medication responses, and significant incidents.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with Sisters and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Coordinate services and communicate regularly with nursing staff, community providers, Sister Life Ministers, and designated healthcare powers of attorney.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and protect the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive health information.
  • Encourage Sisters to maintain independence and promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social well-being.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to health-related emergencies and other urgent situations.
  • When serving as Charge Nurse, supervise and support LPNs, CNAs, and other care staff; assign and monitor care responsibilities; address staffing needs; and communicate resident updates between shifts.
  • Identify and communicate changes in condition, potential risks, and urgent care needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Follow all safety, infection-control, and universal-precaution procedures and promptly report hazards, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service programs, and care conferences.
  • Work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, and accept additional shifts when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including rotating schedules, weekends, holidays, and additional shifts when needed.

  • Ability to safely push an occupied wheelchair weighing up to 180 pounds on level walkways and up to 150 pounds on inclined walkways.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of nursing experience working with older adults.
  • Experience with clinical case management, care coordination, emergency response, or preventive health services.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems, community resources, service agencies, and home-based care options.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or Charge Nurse experience.
  • Experience in a healthcare, long-term care, senior living, religious, or mission-driven organization.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the traditions, culture, and mission of the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church—or a willingness to learn.
