Job Description: Registered Nurse

The registered nurse adheres to the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum. The registered staff nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.

The registered nurse is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role includes nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families. The nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal outcomes, following the model of care and agency policies.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s degree or Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN). BSN preferred. Candidates without a BSN must enroll in a Baccalaureate program within 6 months of hire and complete it within 36 months.
  • Current RN licensure in Massachusetts in good standing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; some units may require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Additional certifications may be required for specific practice areas.
Skills and Experience:
  • Basic computer proficiency, including accessing and interpreting computerized data.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for communication with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize and complete work efficiently.
  • Multilingual skills beyond English are preferred, depending on patient populations.
  • Relevant clinical experience or specialty certifications for certain areas (e.g., enterostomal therapy, epidemiology, peri-operative).
  • Analytical skills to solve clinical issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
  • Ability to delegate patient care activities effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for the patient populations.
  • Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities.
  • Stress management skills for handling critical patient care situations and organizational changes.
