The Pediatric RN cares for the inpatient pediatric patient population from ages newborn to 17. This RN will also be cross trained to the New Life Unit to care for new mothers and newborns and also to med surge to care adult patients.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing Current State of Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Licensure. Prefer one year of acute care nursing experience Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified within one year Satisfactory meets departments’ unit specific annual competencies

Demonstrate accurate judgment/decision making ability consistent with nursing knowledge and skills. When in the charge nurse role, demonstrates leadership ability that promotes optimal unit functioning and Patient care.

Current State Nursing License.

BSN preferred.

Communication skills necessary to effectively: a. Provide instruction to the surgeon, anesthesia, surgical staff, patient and/or significant other b. Provide explanations to the patient and/or significant other c. Explain nursing intervention d. Communicate with other members of the health team.

Analytical skills necessary to develop and implement a plan for nursing care appropriate to the patient, and to solve problems concerning patient’s mental or physical well-being.

Ability to concentrate and prioritize, plan and perform professional nursing care, resolve patient care problems, and interact with patients, families, and other team members - often during stressful situations.

Uses a positive approach for conflict resolution while providing leadership for staff. Utilizes the customer service department if necessary.

Effectively communicates with customers to address needs and problems (includes patients, families, other dept., etc.)

Keep customers up to date concerning any delay in care.

Maintains effective and open lines of communication with fellow staff members, unit manager and nursing supervisor.

Uses hospital phone, email appropriately / limits personal phone calls.

Medical record documentation is accurate, complete and organized and per MMC policy.

Demonstrates clinical/technical competency within the role of the Registered Nurse and utilizes various resources to assist in reaching this goal.

Demonstrates proficiency in assisting during Cesarean section births by preparing the patient, fulfilling the role of scrub nurse and circulating nurse.

Participates in MMC educational activities/programs, unit meetings and completes New Life Unit and hospital annual credentialing (skills day/Con-ed) in a timely manner.

Promotes and enhances optimal functioning of the unit while in the leadership role as charge nurse or team leader. Demonstrates professionalism.

Accountability for addressing concerns, resolving issues with others. Explores alternative solution for solving problems.

Ensures that patient care is provided according to policies, procedures, and patient standards of care.

Utilizes the Nursing Supervisor/Nurse Manager as a resource person and consultant for decision making throughout the shift.
