Lehigh Valley Health Network, Inc. in Allentown, PA is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Children’s Cancer Center.

You will coordinate care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, deliver oncology treatments, and support education for patients and families. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and PA RN licensure; pediatric acute care or infusion experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
• RN license in Pennsylvania required.
• Pediatric Acute Care and/or Pediatric Outpatient RN Infusion experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire; PALS within 30 days.
• CPHON-Cert Peds Hematology Oncology RN ONCC – PA upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides coordination of care across inpatient/outpatient/community to ensure appropriate utilization of clinical and community resources.
• Assesses patient readiness to learn, ensures appropriate education materials, and evaluates effectiveness of patient education.
• Supports delivery of oncology-specific treatment including symptom management, mixing and administering chemotherapy as requested.
• Maintains clinical competence and participates in network quality improvement initiatives.
• Provides phone advice to patients and responds to inquiries.
• Performs administrative tasks to support patient care and office responsibilities.

Summary

Provides care to patients within the Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Scope of Practice. Utilizes clinical skills and equipment; understands electronic medical record system to optimize patient care.

Job Duties

• Provides coordination of care across the continuum (inpatient/outpatient/community) to ensure appropriate utilization of clinical and community resources.
• Assesses patient readiness to learn, ensures education materials are appropriate, and evaluates the effectiveness of patient education. Refers all questions outside the scope or responsibility to the appropriate individual.
• Supports the delivery of oncology-specific treatment including symptom management, mixing chemotherapy treatments, and administering chemotherapy as requested.
• Maintains clinical competence and demonstrates proficiency with network quality improvement initiatives.
• Provides phone advice to patients and responds to patient inquiries.
• Performs selected administrative functions to support patient care delivery and administrative office responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
• 1 year of experience in pediatric acute care or
• 1 year of experience with pediatric outpatient RN infusion.
• Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days
• CPHON-Cert Peds Hematology Oncology RN ONCC - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire and
• RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania

Preferred Qualifications

• CPN - Certified Pediatric Nurse PNCB - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
